Do you feel that young people around you are faced with increasing uncertainty in their lives? How can youth work help young people think differently, see a wider context and make a difference? The aim of this international training course ´Bridging the Gap´ is to support youth workers to make these connections in order to facilitate action for a fairer society. The participants will discover and explore links, sharing experience and ideas to put our work in a wider framework and discover how to plan concrete activities that can help engage young people to realise their potential for change. Engagement means taking action, which requires critical understanding and the ability to make connections between local and global realities. Bridging the gap will do this! This training course is for youth workers, youth leaders, trainers and volunteers who wish to explore global challenges through youth work and the Youth in Action Programme.

In our everyday life, in the work with children and teenager, we have to deal with their family and especially with their parents. But... In which way can we involve them? Which are the best methods to improve parents' education?

The course is based on a Manual of good practices about parents’ education developed in a Grundtvig Partnership thanks the contribution of 5 European educational organizations (From Spain, Bulgaria, France, Turkey and Italy).
The Manual is divided in 4 different sections:
1) Informational materials for parents
2) Education and training of parents
3) Individual and group counselling for parents
4) Training parents to be Training
The course analyzes these good practises (activities, methodologies and instruments) and permits a comparison between participants.

Main Goals are:
- Providing practices of methods in parents education
- Exchanging experiences and ideas about parenthood
- Developing links with teachers, educators and social workers from different European countries

The program will be split in three distinct phases supporting each other:
- Thinking Europe - Presenting the idea for European Youth Capital and the plans for 2015 in Cluj Napoca (eventually for 2014 in Thessaloniki), how it can be connected with European Cultural Capitals, identifying the common interest areas and topics to be addressed and understanding the concepts behind them (1 day – 29th of May)
- Growing Europe - Working on the concrete ideas emerging Thinking Europe phase and developing common networking activities and projects in partnerships (1.5 days - from 30th until the afternoon of 31st of May)
- Living Europe - Putting some selected ideas in practice through an activity based on the interaction with the local community in Cluj Napoca (1.5 days - the afternoon of 31st of May until the evening of 1st of June)

While the event will be included in the European Youth Week, several topics such as European citizenship in practice or how to stimulate the participation of the young people to the European elections in 2014 will be discussed.

Fragen nach der Zukunftsfähigkeit unserer sozialen, ökologischen und wirtschaftlichen Systeme spielen für junge Menschen weltweit eine große Rolle. Auch in der internationalen Jugendarbeit setzen sich viele Träger schon länger mit nachhaltiger Entwicklung auseinander. Welchen Beitrag kann dabei das Konzept der Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung (BNE) für die internationale Jugendarbeit leisten? Welche Herausforderungen stellen sich gerade im internationalen und interkulturellen Kontext? Wie kann eine praktische Umsetzung aussehen? Diesen Fragen wurde in den letzten Jahren u.a. im Rahmen eines Trainings, einer internationalen Fachtagung und in einem trägerübergreifenden Arbeitskreis nachgegangen. Kooperationspartner von IJAB ‐ Fachstelle für Internationale Jugendarbeit der Bundesrepublik Deutschland e.V. waren dabei Arbeit und Leben, Internationales Haus Sonnenberg, Evangelische Trägergruppe für gesellschaftspolitische Jugendbildung, Bundesvereinigung Kulturelle Kinder‐ und Jugendbildung e.V., Internationaler Bund, Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Evangelischen Jugend in Deutschland e.V., Schweriner Bildungswerkstatt e.V., Naturfreundejugend Deutschlands, Arbeitskreis deutscher Bildungsstätten e.V. und Deutsch‐Polnisches Jugendwerk. Der Fachtag führt die Aktivitäten von IJAB zur Implementierung von BNE in die internationale Jugendarbeit zusammen und zieht eine Zwischenbilanz. Die Ergebnisse und Erkenntnisse des Prozesses werden gebündelt und diskutiert. Der inhaltliche Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf Kriterien für die nachhaltige Gestaltung von Begegnungen und auf methodisch‐didaktischen Aspekten einer BNE in der internationalen Jugendarbeit. Die Expertise und die Bedarfe der Träger der internationalen Jugendarbeit fließen dabei ein. Die Ergebnisse werden anschließend in einer Broschüre aufbereitet, die den Trägern als Handreichung für die Praxis dient. Die Veranstaltung verfolgt damit auch das Ziel, die Verankerung von BNE in der Praxis der internationalen Jugendarbeit weiter in die Breite zu tragen. Mentoring for change-Coaching as an approach and tool for supporting volunteers during their EVS training course is aiming at supporting personal and professional development of mentors and motivating them for long-term involvement in the organisations. Aims

We would like to create a learning space that allows:
• to understand better personal change (in general as well as during EVS),
• to get to know coaching approach, its philosophy and tools,
• to try out and experience coaching tools and techniques,
• to explore ways, how coaching philosophy and tools could be applied to the work of mentors supporting volunteers during EVS.
Besides this we believe, that the training course is a great opportunity to exchange experience on different mentoring practices on an international level, as well as creating a support-network among mentors. Working language: English

The Need-Based Method Lab will look at working with young people from our practical point of view. It gives youth workers an opportunity to come aware of their working methods and develop other ways of working with young people. These can be designed active methods and/or more general ways of working.

Participants come to the training with their need. It may be a thing your young people complain or quarrel about, something that bothers them and should be discussed. You can evaluate your own ways of dealing with young people and try new ways to explore topics.

Methods give young people an opportunity to learn about their topic of interest. We will also look at youth exchanges as a way to explore the same topics together and find good methods to discuss them.

DD... Hä? Die Vergangenheit als Lernanlass für die Jugendarbeit - Deutsch-Deutsche Geschichte für Multiplikator/-innen

Die Fortbildung richtet sich an Hauptberufliche der evangelischen Jugend, an Schulpfarrerinnen und Schulpfarrer sowie interessierte Lehrkräfte vor allem der Fächer Religion, Deutsch und Geschichte. Es soll darum gehen, „historische“ Orte in Berlin als besondere Lernorte für das Thema „Deutsch-deutsche Geschichte“ kennen zu lernen und sich durch die Konkretion von staatlicher Gewalt mit dem totalitären DDR-Regime auseinanderzusetzen. Die Reflexion der persönlichen Erfahrungen schließt zudem die Frage ein, wie man heute – über 20 Jahre nach dem Mauerfall – mit Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen, die nach der Wende geboren wurden, über dieses so wichtige Thema ins Gespräch kommen kann.

Verständigung mit Händen und Füßen, auf Englisch, Deutsch und ein bisschen Polnisch oder schlicht nonverbal: Das funktioniert meistens gut bei deutsch-polnischen Jugend- und Schülerbegegnungen. Doch wenn der Spracherwerb nicht im Mittelpunkt steht: Was macht die Begegnungen spannend, ereignisreich und fruchtbar für alle Beteiligten? Beispiele für unterschiedliche Konzepte, Methoden und Strukturen sollen Unterstützung bieten bei der Überlegung, wie deutsch-polnische Jugendbegegnungen lebendig und stabil gestaltet werden können. Dabei soll es um unterschiedliche thematische Zugänge (existentielle Fragen Jugendlicher, Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung) ebenso gehen wie um neuartige Methoden (Kulturarbeit, Theater) und neue Verknüpfungen von Schule, außerschulischen Partnern und lokaler Politik. Eingeladen sind sowohl Neueinsteiger/-innen als auch erfahrene Aktive, die im schulischen und außerschulischen Kontext im deutsch-polnischen Austausch tätig sind oder daran Interesse haben. Mit Ausnahme einzelner Panels, die auf Englisch stattfinden, ist Deutsch die Tagungssprache. Die Kosten für die Teilnahme, Verpflegung und eine Übernachtung betragen 45 Euro.

According to the latest EU Youth Report, mental illnesses among young people are more common than ever in the European Union. An estimated 10-20% of young Europeans suffer from mental health illnesses, with one-fifth suffering from developmental, emotional and behavioural problems. Failure to treat mental health disorders in children can have a devastating impact on their future, resulting in reduced job and life expectations. Appropriate measures of prevention and early intervention need to be implemented not only to reduce health costs but also to realise larger savings, such as improved educational outcomes and reduced unemployment and crime. This timely international symposium provides an invaluable opportunity to explore the effectiveness of current policy measures at the EU level to ensure the positive mental health of children and young people, and raise awareness of prevention and early intervention. This symposium will discuss the vital role of health practitioners, as well as schools and parents in identifying warning signs for children and young people at high risk of mental health problems. Ausbildung zum Coach 'Kompetenznachweis International'

Die Ausbildung zum Coach 'Kompetenznachweis International' (KNI) besteht aus drei Phasen, dem zweitägigen Workshop, der Praxisphase und dem zweitägigen Kolloquium. Folgende Termine stehen fest:
- Workshop: 01. – 02. Juni 2013
- Praxisphase: flexibel (z. B. eignet sich ein Workcamp)
- Kolloquium: 26. – 27. Oktober 2013 Der Workshop und das Kolloquium werden voraussichtlich in Bonn im Haus Venusberg stattfinden. Genauere Informationen werden mit dem Programm versandt. Wer die Ausbildung absolviert habt, kann den Kompetenznachweis International in jeder internationalen Jugendbegegnung anwenden, organisationsunabhängig. Das Augenmerk des Kompetenznachweises International liegt auf den persönlich erworbenen beziehungsweise gezeigten Schlüsselkompetenzen, wie zum Beispiel sozialem Verhalten, Eigenständigkeit oder Ambiguitätstoleranz. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf individuell gezeigtem Verhalten, nicht nur auf den objektiven Anforderungen der Maßnahme. In dem Nachweis geht es allein und ausschließlich um vorhandene beziehungsweise gezeigte Kompetenzen! Ein anderes wichtiges Merkmal des Nachweises ist die Abkehr vom Prinzip der Fremdbewertung hin zum dialogischen Verfahren. Das heißt: Ihr arbeitet eng mit den Teilnehmenden zusammen, was einen intensiveren Umgang mit diesen bedeutet.
